THE WINES
FOR NORTH VALLEY WINES, Tony has partnered with some of the area’s most meticulous and talented growers to assemble wines that reflect the region. The goal is simple: world-class, sustainably produced Pinot Noir that faithfully represents the inherent purity and delicacy that typify the wines originating in this corner of the world we call North Valley.
THE VINEYARDS are the inspiration and the growers provide the perspiration. North Valley wines are crafted from a diverse set of clones, soil types, and micro-climates within a ten mile radius of Carlton, Oregon. Our growers are engaged partners. They are paid a guaranteed sum by the acre, rather than the ton, thus ensuring that yields can be low, to encourage ripening and flavor development without putting the farmer at risk. We actively participate in all the farming decisions to ensure timely, quality-oriented inputs that are always in sync with best sustainable practices. All of our vineyard partners farm sustainably, with respect for the land and with minimal environmental impact. Most are certified by one or more authorities, and if not, they are currently enrolled in the programs and adhering to the requirements of certification.
THE WINES must meet high standards in sync with the expectations we hold for our Estate wines. Winemaker, James Cahill, handles them with care using traditional small batch methods. They are aged in our underground cellars along-side the Soter Vineyards vineyard-designate wines. The North Valley wines are mostly aged in previously used French Oak cooperage. Only a small amount of new French and Oregon Oak barrels are employed and these are locally coopered to our specifications just minutes from the winery. Barrels here are used as a nurturing vessel not an overt flavor enhancer. It is the nuance and character of each contributing vineyard that provides the charm and generous nature of the resulting wine. Read more about our current release North Valley wines:
